This morning,
I opened the door.
My car was covered with a light layer of snow.
All day,
the world outside the school windows was a delightfully gloomy picture.
The clouds were promising more.
This evening,
I walked through a soaking blizzard.
My hair got wet. My coat was speckled with snowflakes. I started to sing.
I'm currently cozy in my house. The prospect of a world washed in white makes me giddy.

parenthetical overkill, weather worries, and fiery lullabies
So...here's the scoop.
You may have noticed (unless you live elsewhere) that the weather has not be very favorable as of late.
No, indeed.
(And this is the part where I interrupt my own post for a random and slightly worrisome thought--I talk about the weather...a lot. Isn't weather usually considered a last resort as far as conversation goes? Isn't it that kind of topic that goes hand in hand with visions of awkward chats and silences? Is it the sort of thing that equals awkwardness in face to face conversation, but doesn't apply in the blogosphere? I'm just sayin'...am I boring you all ((all six of you, anyways)) with my random, nonsensical, and oftentimes exaggerated sentences about...weather? If so, please feel free to say something...but I'll probably still talk about the stormy skies...)
Anyways, back to the weather outside. It's a bit frightful, you might say. And I, unfortunately, do not have a fireplace in my abode.
BUT. That doesn't stop me.
This Christmas, my angel mother gave my father a DVD. But not just any DVD. We got plenty of movies, oh yes, but none quite so...useful, shall we say, as this particular DVD.
I know. Fantastic, right? Of course right. On Sunday night (after watching another excellent dvd - The Young Victoria ((post about this movie to come soon!!!)) ) I brought the virtual fireplace dvd into my room, plugged it in, watched the flames flicker across the walls, and listened to the virtual embers pop and smolder. Best lullaby I've ever encountered, and I swear the room was warmer, in spite of the frightful weather.

postmarked to the season
Lovely Spring,
Please don't leave me ever again (until your sister Summer comes to visit. Then you may go.) But for now, please stay awhile. Your lilting breezes ruffle my hair in a teasing sort of way and your sunny afternoons beg to be enjoyed. I like the way the trees look this year - in the past, they were just babies, but now they have truly blossomed. And thank you for the rain! Oh, the rain. My umbrella has been used and I have already made plans to buy some galoshes (but only if you promise it'll rain again. Otherwise, it might not be worth it, seeing as I'm...completely broke.) Anyway, the rain was wonderfully welcome. And did you know that I flew a kite the other day? The sun was shining, debris from a lovely picnic was sitting on the grass nearby, and my date was fantastic. That day was perfect - thank you, Spring. Everyone could use a little more kite-flying, I think.
With affection,
Caroline

happy earth day!
Earth Day.
I love it.
I love those silly guys at my school who dressed up in ridiculous Earth Day garb.
I love Tamara for giving me a "love earth" sticker.
I love that I get to walk along a little creek every morning before school and every afternoon after school.
I love the fact that the mountains are still crisply white with snow, but it's sunny where I live (mostly).
It's Earth Day. Let's love it.

the streets are full of puddles again
Rain is so often associated with dismal things. Funerals, saying goodbye, general dreariness... When rain falls it seems as though the sky is crying. But do you have to be sad to cry? No. Happiness can trigger a tear or two. Today, the sky was crying happy tears. Instead of washing everything out and soaking the vibrance out of anything in sight, the rain seemed to lure the color out of hiding. Yellow blossoms were sharper, red stop signs more passionate. Everything came clean and clear and though the sky above was overcast, it didn't dampen my spirits. It woke me up and excited my soul. This morning I sat in my car for a moment, turned off the windshield wipers, and listened. After school I snuggled into my comforting bed and fell asleep to the same relaxing sound of droplets hitting my window. After my performance tonight I walked to my car and breathed in the heavenly aroma of precipitation. The streets glistened, all dressed up in their shiny new puddles. I hope it rains tomorrow, too.

I really need...
some rainboots. I stood in the rain the other day, and then couldn't resist splashing in the puddle I found. Unfortunately, my shoes and socks got completely soaked, along with the bottom half of my jeans. Carlie = in need of some puddlejumpers.

in which carlie soaks up the sun's delicious rays and desperately tries to get tan.
It's lovely in St. George. It's no California (some people have all the luck) and it's no Georgia (some people REALLY have all the luck), but despite her friends' escapades that took them out of Utah, Carlie is managing to have a blast.
I watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie last night. I knew every line.
I finished Bride Wars today. Now a favorite.
I have yet to finish Sleepless in Seattle, but I've finished Julie and Julia, Dan in Real Life (twice) and Anne of Green Gables. It's a fantastic thing to snuggle with your lil' sis on a cushy bed in front of a gorgeous television set and watch your favorite chick flicks. Hooray for sisterly bonding!! We haven't even pulled each other's hair out yet.
And today? Swimming. And the hot tub. And soaking up the Vitamin D. YUM.
Carlie out.

stormy skies
it's chilly.
The sky can't decide between frozen snow or murky sleet; it can never compromise. It makes for windy Wellington weather. I do love any excuse to use an umbrella.

Today was Monday.
Yesterday, Sunday.
And I have a sneaking suspicion that tomorrow will be Tuesday.
Just another week of winter,
and I am aching for the springtime.

January
There's nothing worse than depressing snow, at least as far as weather is concerned. In early December, the first snow is a thing of celebration, jubilee, festivities! It means that Christmas is closing in. It's happy snow. Once Christmas is over, the snow stays fairly cheerful for about a week. Then, just after New Year's Day, it resorts to a sad, selfish, and unreliable mood. With no more holiday to look forward to, the snow quickly becomes an inconvenient hassle and a dirty, gray, wizened atmosphere settles over everything. It melts, refreezes into deadly ice, then melts, refreezes into even deadlier ice, and so on. Then, out of the CLEAR BLUE (or rather, sooty gray--I haven't seen clear blue skies in far too long) fresh, clean snow starts to blizzard around. Things begin to look a little bit nicer, the new snow disguising the blackened ice, but it doesn't hold the same excitement as it did before. It's merely an unexpected cover-up. Tomorrow afternoon, it'll get just warm enough to liquify some of this precipitation, and then tomorrow night, the biting cold will sweep through and turn everything to slick, hidden, cunning ice.
Boo on January. It's crampin' my style, Lyle.

fall, fall, my favorite time of all...
The decorations, the leaves, the candy, the wind, the cold mornings, the mugs of hot cider that warm your insides...this is the time of year I LIVE for.
it's almost halloween.
Which means it's almost my birthday!
Why is halloween the best time of the year? Well, now you know.
Not only is Autumn the best season hands down (Winter being a close second, I think...but I may change my mind to Summer or Spring tomorrow) but my birthday gets to come right in the midst of fall beauty!! Ah, sweet mystery of life. Beauty, you are leaves that change color and blow away in ringlets of autumn folly!
