three - my parents

Mom
Christine.
Beautiful, and kind.
Cooks delicious food, and bakes bread sometimes.
Appreciates simple things.
Reads lots of books and then recommends them to me.
Loves my dad.
Gets excited about silly things with me.
Supports my decisions and tells me when I need to make a change.
Has every right to say, "I told you so!" on a regular basis.
Gets Chinese take-out with me.
Sings songs.
Pretends she likes my weird taste in music/clothes/stuff, unless she really hates it, and then she'll tell me so.
Taught me how to be thrifty/goes to thrift stores with me to find gems.
Makes everything lovely.

Dad
Ken.
Blue-eyed and good-natured.
Makes jokes about the weirdest things. Like polar bears.
Appreciates it when I do my very best at everything.
Has meaningful conversations with me.
Loves my mom.
Understands how my logic works and helps me figure things out.
Is able to quote full scenes from movies.
Listens to cool music and is open to my suggestions.
Laughs at stupid YouTube videos with me.
Thinks I'm beautiful.
Goes on walks with me to talk about life and church.
Takes care of me and supports my family.

"Happiness in family life is
most likely to be achieved
when founded upon the teachings
of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Dear Dad,

You are the greatest. I am so thankful to have a father like you. I'm grateful for your love. I'm grateful for your sense of humor. I'm grateful for the steadfast support you give me in all my endeavors. I'm glad we share the same taste in music. I love sitting up really late at night listening to songs on iTunes with you and discussing their quality. Remember when we watched those random Madonna videos from the eighties? That was a good day. I love you. Thank you for everything you do. Thanks for being my dad.

Love,
Your Oldest

and the week goes on.

I don't really know why this week has been so excellent.

Maybe
it's the sun.

Only it rained yesterday, so that's probably not the only reason.

Maybe
it's my family.

Yeah, definitely a huge part of it.

Maybe
it's my best friends.

The other huge part.

Things are looking up?

Yes.

It's perfect.

End.

Sunday

Today
was beautiful.

It was one of those Sundays when everything you do
seems to be lovely.

I woke up,
got ready,
went to an uplifting church meeting,
talked to friend,
and came home.

Since I finished my homework yesterday,
today was truly a day of rest.

I watched my mom work in the kitchen
and imagined my life ten years from now.

I set the table,
and did the dishes,
and swept the floor without being asked.
I wanted to sweep the floor.
Just because.

I ate dinner with my eternal family;
spaghetti and meatballs
and my angel mother's homemade French bread.

I went outside and sat on the porch,
and then migrated to the grass.
I brought a book
and a crunchy apple.
The sun settled over me like a quilt knitted by the breeze.
I fell asleep to the sounds of children laughing
and bird descants.

I went on a walk
with a best friend
and talked about summer.
We made plans.
We laughed about boys.
The wind teased us,
tugging at our hair.

I came home.
My sweet home.
Family, warmth, and comfort
waited for me there.

Today
was beautiful.
